BreakAway 2010

Praying with the Master
If we are honest most of the time we are not satisfied with our prayer life. We don't know what, how or when to pray. We even wonder if prayer really makes a difference. But imagine if Jesus joined us to pray? It was common practice for Jesus to depart and pray to the Father. What did he pray about? What kind of requests did he make? Join this elective if you want your prayer life recharged... if you want to share Jesus' compassion for your campus. Come see how prayer can change you, those you care about on your campus.
Apologetics: two hard questions
When your friends ask hard questions about Christianity, how do you respond? (Or maybe you have these questions yourself--that's OK!) We'll dive into two issues Saturday morning.
  1. Religious pluralism: Is Jesus the only way to find God? What about sincere believers of other religions?.
  2. Historical reliability of the gospels: Why should we trust the written accounts of Jesus?
Open Your Eyes. Pray. Go.
Look around at your campus, or even your friends. What do you see? Does it seem like those who need Jesus would never respond to the gospel? This is what Jesus would say: "...open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest." Come and discover new vision for your friends and your campus and gain tools for being a witness that will prepare you to join God's harvest.
God's Gym: Spiritual Workouts to strengthen your life and ministry.

"Back Stage Pass to the Jesus Tour"
In 1966 John Lennon of the Beatles claimed "We're more popular than Jesus now." Was he right? What did this mean? Did it matter? We do know it created quite a stir...and so did Jesus in his day and even still Jesus evokes deep emotions from people. Get VIP access to the man called Jesus of Nazareth. Like music and pop culture learn why Jesus envelops influence and controversy unlike anything we've every known...even the Beatles.

All Nations - Encounters with Jesus (meets Sat and Sun)
This elective is uniquely designed for students from other countries who have questions about Christianity and the Bible. Together we will study several encounters with Jesus as told by first-hand witnesses. Our time together will be very interactive - allowing great opportunity for us to practice our conversational English and learn new vocabulary. But more than that, in the company of friends, we will discover a Jesus who is shocking, cross-cultural, powerful yet gentle, a teacher of teachers and so much more.
Hey God, it's me. I could use a little help down here.
Life can be filled with one question after another: What major? Who should I date? Should I date? Should I....? Wouldn't it be nice to have a clear sense of God's will for your life? What is His will? We will explore how to know God's will and how to live freely to make decisions in our lives and start to get some answers!
Growing in Faith as Grad Students and Faculty
The pressures and demands of the academic world compete with the development of strong faith and a life of witness. How can Christian faculty and grad students succeed in the academic world and grow in their life of faith? What will sustain our faith? How can we witness to others? Join the dialogue as we wrestle with these questions through the lens of scripture.
Apologetics: How green is Christianity?
Lack of care for the earth is a significant objection to Christian faith in the industrial west, where Christians are often criticized for exploitating the environment and other cultures. We'll discuss Biblical responses. Also, we'll suggest ways to connect relationally with friends who pose a variety of tough questions/objections to Christianity.
Time for our Souls
We are often motivated to spend time on friends, homework, eating and even exercise. However, we aren't always as motivated to set time aside for taking care of our souls. We need this to stay in tune with God's work in our lives, don't we? In this elective you are invited to simply spend time with God. After a full weekend with others, take some time to reflect on God's work in you. You will be guided into a time of silence, prayer and listening as we open ourselves to God and care for our souls.
"Hearing from God"
Sometimes our best moments with God are the simplest. Our singular focus in this elective is simply to be with God in his Word. We will study a passage of the Bible together and then allow the passage to study us in order to hear God's message for us today. Come enjoy the simple, restorative and refreshing experience of Bible study.
Becoming a student leader
Discover the calling of playing the most critical role in campus ministry... student leadership. Sometimes we default to thinking the paid Staffers, Area Staff, or the Regional Staff are the critical roles, but the reality is... you are. Without a doubt the most valuable calling on campus is becoming a student leader and stepping into the role of leadership in some capacity. It is you who are the incarnation of real life, it is you living in the dorms, it is you walking the halls, it is you that have voice in organizations, classrooms, sporting fields, coffee shops, and the cafeterias of your campus. Without you recruited, trained, and deployed we are just an organization not a movement! Come discover how to connect you to your campus...
Enjoying God
What is the purpose of life? Many Christians have said it is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. Yet joy seems to be an elusive quality. Has your relationship with Jesus become more characterized by duty than desire? Are your spiritual habits just another activity on your to do list? Come and explore the topic of joy and how we can experience it through our relationship with Jesus. Whether you are hungry for more of God or just wish you were, join us to discover more about how we can enjoy God now and forever.
